Edith Pons is a Mexican multidisciplinary artist (Mexico City, 1978) and graduated from ENPEG La Esmeralda (gen. 2001). She studied the Master's Degree in Sacred Art at the Pontifical University of Mexico (2023-2025) and has exhibited since 1999.
Â
After art school, she began her career as a contemporary artist, but felt dissatisfied - her art lacked a deeper meaning -. She took the spiritual path and discernment to religious life (2012-2018) to discover her purpose in life as well as that of his artistic vocation. During this stage, she directed a project in the Culture Commission of the Archdiocese of Mexico (2013-2018) that explored the relationship between contemporary art and faith, engaging in dialogue with art theorists such as Pbro. Friedhelm Mennekes and featuring works by artists such as Yoko Ono, Barbara Kruger, Tracey Emin and Keith Haring. However, she found challenges to integrating both approaches due to the lack of objectivity in contemporary art and the need to convey truth through beauty in sacred art.
Â
Later, he returned from spiritual retreat to an ancient monastery in Italy (2021-2022). Defined her path, she is now fully dedicated to sacred art, integrating the perennial values of art in our times. Her work focusses on large oil paintings that represent visions of the spiritual world, especially in religious representations, of the Angels and, in particular, of St. Michael the Archangel.
